2002 Chevy Monte Carlo Catalytic converter questions

I had recently taken my car to have the catalytic converter replaced because the old one was plugged, and when i got the car back i noticed that it had less horsepower. Is this because the converter has to be broken in, or could it be faulty?

did you put a factory one on or an aftermarket one? factory one you shouldnt have less horsepower
