I noticed my check engine light came on and I checked under the hood as well as the fluids. Later in the day, I noticed the car jumping almost every time I accelerate from a stop, and sometimes it would do it a little while driving. I also noticed the tachometer increaseing in RPM everytime the car would jump.

At this point I'm thinking 3 possible things: transmission, exhaust system, or spark plugs/wire harness.

Any idea of where to begin?

Before replacing anything, have the computer scanned. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free, so there will be no money out of pocket, and the trouble code they retreve will identify where the problem is coming from.
