Noises problem
2001 Chevy Monte Carlo Automatic 160000 miles

When my car is in idle it begins to first studder then it makes a loud clicking sound like the engine wants to lock up. It does not do this everytime im in idle but only some. I can either be in park or jus be stopped at a light and once i resume acceleration for a while the noise stops. please let me know of any input...thank you

Has the check engine light come on? Does the sound come from the engine or under the car? If the engine is running rough (studdering) it could be a heat shield or exhaust hitting.

Let me know.
