I own a 2001 Monte Carlo SS, 3.8 It ran and shifted fine until a few days ago when I was backing it out of the garage it seemed to sputter. Ever since the engine has been running a little bit rough kind of like a sputter or miss and the transmission is shifting erratic. One time it shifts fine and the next time it slips. There are no engine warning lights on. Can you please give me any advice on this. Thanks Greg

Check the fluid level in the transmission.

Even though the engine light is not on, you can scan for pending codes (free at most auto parts stores). This may give you some indication of a problem.

You may also have purchased some bad gas.

If there are no pending codes, I would change the fuel filter, check spark, and run a can of fuel injector cleaner (I like Chevron) through it.

I would also look at vacuum lines for any signs of wear, and wiring connectors and wires for signs of cracking or heat issues (burn marks).

If equipped with Dex-Cool, I would also check with GM on any recalls for intake manifold gaskets.
