my fan stays on after the car is turned of and temperture gauge is not working?

How long does the fan run? The system isn't too complex. You have a temp sending unit that tells the gauge how hot the engine is. When it reaches a certain temp, it triggers the fan relay to turn the fan on. In your case, I would say the sensor is bad since you get no reading in the car and it is triping the relay.

Check the temp sending unit to make sure it has a good connection. Also, in the relay box, the relays are marked. Locate the fan relay and find another relay with the same part number in the box and switch them to see if it makes a change.
