1999 Chevy Monte Carlo Two Wheel Drive Automatic 141000 miles

he was driving the car and he said the rpm's went up to about 5 and he was giving it gas so he let off then it died. My husband got it started and it was making a rattling noise and it kept on dying.

HI there,

If the engine has been over revved you may have sustained internal dammage, the rattle could be a bearing or a cracked piston or a valve problem, over revving can stress many components, I would get a mechanic to listen to this noise and report as it may be the start of a more expensive repair, do this asap.
