My brake lights stopped working but the third light in the back window still works. I talked with a mechanic who suggested I change the multi function control??

Hello, yes, your mechanic may be correct. The lower brakes lites are wired through the turn signal switch, the high mount brake lite isn't. The lower brake lites and turn signals use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. I guess you could check the circuits at the bulb sockets. Brown wire is tail-lites, black is ground, the other color wire should be for brake/turn.

Thank you for your reply. Is that the same as the multi purpose relay?

You don't mean relay, you mean multifunction switch? Yes.
