I have a 98 Monte Carlo 3.1. Does this model have Adaptive Memory. Could this change the way the car shifts wshen the car lacks power?

Yes, they have adaptive memory. If you are having shifting problems, have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. Post any codes for me. Also, make sure the fluid is full and in good condition.

I have no codes what so ever. The shifting problem seems to come and go. When I have the problem the car lacks power. I usually have the problem for 1-2 weeks at a time then the problem disappears for about the same amount of time. Everything works fine when problem isn't present.

The trans. Fluid is at good level. A little dirty though. I'm afraid to change it due to high miles and I'm not sure if the previous owner kept up on the flushes. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to have fluid replaced? I can't afford to have trans. Go yet.

Flushing is the best thing. Just changing the filter and fluid in the pan doesn't get all the fluid changed.
