I was driving my car home from work and it just made an awful noise a clunking and then loud ticking. I pulled over immediately and called for help. when they arrived they said they would follow me and see if we could get it back to the house.
When I put it in reverse it made an awful grinding noise. it then wouldn't go when I stepped on the gas pedal. but still makes a loud tapping...... ticking type noise. Is this the transmission? or is it something in the engine that broke??

Hi there,

if you have no noises with the car idling in park it will probably be a failed transmission or diff, bet get it towed to your mechanic to have it check out.
