Two days ago my Monte started whining. The whining sound is present throughout acceleration and gets higher pitched as you go faster. It appears to be coming from the belt just to the left of the engine. It also appears to be a louder than normal whine when turning. Any idea on what the cause could be and if this is a serious concern?

also, have your power steering pump looked at and the fluid level in it. And have ur transmission checked to see if the fluid is good. actually u can look at the dipstick, if its a burnt smell or has metal shavings in it, get the transmision fluid changed, if that doesnt help, i have heard of transmissions going out. get back at me with this problem, cuz i have a 98 lumina that does the same thing.
