1982 Chevy Monte Carlo back fire

i put a new carb on and it back fires checked the timing move it back and forward 4 -15 degrees still does it what should i do should i pull the disrbutor and turn it

Hi:
Is the back fire through the carb or exhaust? Also, if you are able to get the timing to the mfgs recommendations, there should be no need to remove it. Finally, most backfireing is cause from a vacuum leak allowing too much air to the engine. Make sure everything is tight and there are no leaks.
