i have a 1977 chevy monte carlo, and when I shift into reverse, the car will rev, but it will not move. All the other gears work fine, and if I place the car in park, the park gear will hold the car fine. Do I need to rebuild (replace) the whole transmission? Or can I just have the reverse gear fixed? If so, can you give me a rough estimate about how much you think it would cost?

Hi Well if it was my car and being that the year it is I would have the tranny rebuilt rather than trying to replace it with a new tranny. Im not able to qute u a price because depending if that is the only thing that would be wrong with it after they tear into it.
