I have a Malibu Maxx 2005 6 cylinder engine 41,000 miles and I have have had one steering rack and pinion thingy replaced 9 months ago at Chevolet's expense. But it seems the replacement part is a dud too and now the replacement is making the same knocking noise in the steering as the original one did. What do I do now? Will they replace that as well?  as it was on re-call?

That's a good question. IT depends on the inegrity of the dealership and employees you are dealing with.

I would certainly call them. You may have to pay for diagnostic time for them to determine it. This is where the integrity comes in. Will they now tell you it is the steering shaft instead?

Another option is to go to an independent and have them diagnose it. "IF" they can determine it, and they say it's in the rack, You'll at least have some ammunintion. However, you may aso end up with 2 diagnostic charges.

I wasn't convinced the problem was in the rack to begin with on these as They have had steering shaft issues anyways on similiar ones. But that is just my paranoid skepticism and can not prove anything at this point.

Please update this on what happens in the very end, but feel free to keep this thread going at any point regardless.
