Engine tapping

I have a 2004 Malibu. the car ran low on oil but not out. the engine started tapping. how do i repair the problem?

How often is the oil changed? What motor? Did you add oil? Why was the oil low?

2.2 engine. yes i added oil. i had the oil changed like i normally do every 3 mos.
