Car will start then just dies

1998 Malibu.85,000.V6.I'm in a panic. My car will start with help from a tap to the gas pedal but then when it starts it just dies unless I keep my foot on the gas. I was coming home from my Cub Scout meeting and didn't know what to do. I'd love some advice. Thanks! Karen

Check engine light is it coming On or has flashed?

Check or Have the idle air control valve and throttle position sensor.

The check engine light hasn't came on and neither has any others. I did find something that was weird today. I had to take my youngest to school and when I first tried to start it early this morning when it was still kinda dark, it wouldn't start but when it was light outside and the dash lights didn't come on it started and ran fine. Could it be as simple as the battery?
