when i put gas in and its full the fuel light will come on and the gauge will go to empty and the engine light will come on

Probably a bad fuel level sensor in the tank.
What codes are in the computer?

I need the code to better answer that, but if I'm right the code is detection of the low level and setting the both lights off.

Now here is what bugs me. The CEL is all about emissions. What in the world does the low fuel level sensor have to do with emissions.

We did one like this a few months back. If I didn't experience it, I wouldn't have believed it.
