I have automatic light in my 2003 Chevy Malibu, and recently the dash board and radio lights do not come on at night. The headlights work fine. The radio works fine; just no lights. During the day the radio lights do come on, and all of the non-backlight lights (IE. Door Ajar, Check Engine, Airbag, etc.) Works on the dash during both the day and night. I have checked all of the fuses, but none were burnt out and all passed on a fuse checker. Help!

Use a voltage tester at the instrument lamp fuse, with lamps turned on. If no voltage backtrack the circuit.

If it is an LCD dashboard then the instrument cluster illumination driver has gone out. This means the cluster will need to be rebuilt.

Here is a guide that will show you what you are in for when replacing the cluster.

Please let us know what happens.

It all started when I dropped my key fob in the snow. My door lock fuse keeps popping when I engage the passenger lock switch (the driver side doesn't work, I don't even hear the relays click when I use that one) and at night my dash lights go out as well as my radio display. Though I still can use it, play cd's or radio. My car will also not be able to start after running just the radio for 10 minutes or it not being started up for 2-3 days. I thought the driver side lock might have been drawing power so I popped it out but my problems persist.

Sounds like you may have a wiring problem. I dont think your key fob would have anything to do with it. I would take it to a profrssional to have it looked at. Your lights may have the same problem right next to the door lock concern in the same location on the vehicle.

Just had a bunch of work done on car. Replace fuel pump, new plugs, new wires, change radiator hose, flush radiator, new belts -replace roteres new brakes clean engine, change oil.
My husband did this as a favor while I was out of town. He took it to a unknown mechanic. When I first drove the car I noticed that the air conditioning was not functioning as before. I seemed that the dash board controller was not working- air was very cold but dial to say where air is expelled was not working. No matter where you said- feet- dash- feet& dash- defroster- etc It was allways the same. You could feel the cold air - lightly comming at dash and feet, no matter how you changed the dial. Also fan controll was either low or high- and high not as high as before. I took it back to mechanic they said it was either a vacume leak or the dash board controler. They then tested it and said it was the dash board controler. I have replaced the dash board controller and the same problem exists. I think it is a vacume leak. The controller dial for direction of air expell is vacume controlled. I tried to back track these little air hoses but lost them in a conduit under the dash board. Any Ideas?

Hi
On controler purple hose is vacuum source from engine check for vacuum. Red hose goes to mode accutuator see if vacuum is there when mode is selected. If these have vacuum then mode select acuator is faulty.
Hope this helps

Hi Docfixit- I checked the purple hose and no vacuum. I removed the controller and then unplugged the mode selector and placed my finger tip over the hole where the purple tube is - and nothing. The car was running and the air was on.

O.K. Purple hose must go through firewall and attach to intake manifold for vacuum. I can't tell from info I have where but search around it will be only hose through fire wall. Will most likely be black in engine compartment. And should have a check valve in line.

I have tried following the purple hose through the fire wall with no luck - I have taken the glove box out and it looks like the group of hoses enters into some kind of conduit and I can not see any thing from the inside of the fire wall - any Idea where on the intake manifold it might connect?

On my '98, there is a one-transistor regulator mounted to a bracket above the brake pedal near the steering column. T0-3 case - 2N3055 or ECG 130 perhaps. More 2 come.

I drove through what I thought was a low flood and sure enough, my car stalled. I was going about 8-10mph. The water was not above the hood. I did not try to turn it on in the water, just had it pushed out of the street and let it sit overnight. Yesterday there was no sound at all when I tried to turn it on. Today, there is kind of a screech then a click. The dashboard lights come on and the ac blows air, not cold. What do I do now? How do I get my car running again? Detailed answers would help me greatly!

Sounds like No Crank-You might wanna start with the connections at battery/starter, starter, park and neutral position switch and ignition switch.

All the warning lights come on, check fuses on both sides and underhood, they all have power, tail lights work.

Replaced dimmer switch, replaced light/wiper switches

I still have no dash lights. Hard to drive at night.

Do you have wire diagram?
