Electrical problem
2002 Chevy Malibu Engine Size unknown Automatic 70000 miles

My anti-thieft system has been going off and leaves us stranded. Spent close to $1000.00 at a repair shop (paying for a fuel pump I probably didn't need.) They tolds us we had to take it to a dealer to fix the anti-thieft system. My question is can it be bypassed or checked for a loose connection (went over railroad tracks when it started blinking) I have no idea were it is but somewhat mechanically inclined.

Please help
Tired off getting ripped off
and willing to try to fix it myself

First time using a forum, but see the answer. The repairshop told me 5 minutes to reset the system but see that it's 10 mins. I'll get a wiring diagram and attempt to bypass it later. Thanks guys

Firts, I would not advise bypassing anything. In my experience I would have the dealer ship check for body control codes. Most likely it is an ingnition switch. There are many problems with the pass lock sensors in them. If you are mechanicaly inclined you can perform this your self. If you decide to respond back and I can tell you how to reprogam it with out going to the dealer.

I had this problem after buying a used 02 Malibu. It was happening at least once a week. I replaced the fuel pump twice! I found out about the ten min wait which works, but I found that when I stopped using the FOB the problem stopped! It's been months and it has started everytime!
