I have a 2001 Malibu and I used to get 300-340 miles per tank and now I get 250 at best. I live in the same place same conditions. This problem started last fall. I have brought it in to the dealer a number of times and they say there is nothing wrong. The engine light has came on a few times and they say it is always a small electrical error that is no worries.

I also noticed that the car tends to kind of lung when accelarating mainly noticable going up hills. Recently we have had the fuel pump replaced, fuel filter, fuel injectors, plugs, wires, a coil (not sure exactly what that is).

Is there anything I can do to try fix this?

i would check the O2 sensors since they account often for such a drop in mileage.

also i would clean teh MAF sensor and check the ignition timing since your lacking in power on hills.

and the coil is what supplies the vehicle with the spark, takes a small voltage and amps it up to 40,000 volts!
