2001 Chevy Malibu Car turns over but wont start

When I try to start the car the car turns over like it's going to start, but no luck. I noticed that when I turn the key to the on position none of the dashboard lights come on. However, if I giggle it a bit between Aux and On then the dashboard lights up and the car starts like a charm.

What is the problem, and what should I do to fix it?

sounds like a possible ingnition switch.
