2000 Chevy Malibu turn sigals

I have a 2000 Malibu that the turn signals work when they want to. Sometimes I hold the flasher switch in and the flashers will work, I let go of the switch and they stop. Are the flasher and the switch made as on unit and could that be my problem?-Thanks -Jerry-

replace the hazard switch. its the flasher
