2000 Chevy Malibu Head Gasket/Intake Maniforld

Is a blown head gasket and/or bad intake manifold specifically an "engine" issue, or is it a cooling issue. I recently bought a used car and it keeps overheating. It may be covered under limited warranty if it is classified as an "engine" problem.
