When I install the upper intake manifold gasket do i have to apply sealer before i install the upper intake manifold?

Chevrolet 1999 Car Malibu
Do I have to apply to the gasket yes or no?

When I do it, I make sure all old gasket material is removed, both surfaces are clean, and only use the gasket without any sealer.
