1999 Chevy Malibu Pop in my car now sounds loud

1999 Chevy Malibu

My car made a sssss sound and then made this huge pop that made the car kind of jump. It now runs very loudly. I luckily was pulling into my parking lot. Should I get a tow truck or drive it to a mechanic myself. Is it safe to still drive to the mechanic?

Well I was looking around my car and saw that my muffler had broken open and pretty much exploded open. I drove it to the repair people after calling them and asking if it was safe to drive. I got it all fixed so thanks for your reply!
