Electrical problem
1998 Chevy Malibu Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I don't actually know that my problem is electrical versus all the other options there; it's just something I'm guessing it could be. When I turn the key there is a little bit of a chug, but the engine won't turn over. After I return the key to the 'off' position, there is a whine in the vicinity of my cd player, like something is trying to run. I'm not certain if it is what's making the whine, or if there is something else in that area that would do that. I was low on gas so I had put in the last half-gal or so of gas from the can in the garage with intentions to go put more in at a gas station this morning. My husband suspects that either fuel or battery is the problem, but won't have time to look at it until tomorrow, so I'm pinned home until I know what's going on. Is there anything I can do to narrow down what the problem is before I have to take it to a mechanic?

sounds like the battery is dead, you will need to put a battery charger on the battery and charge it and take it somewhere to have load tested.
