1998 Chevy Malibu starts then stalls

Car starts fine runs for about 5 sec. Then shuts off also scan tool will not comunicate with car so no help there also car started hard for a long time had to crank for about 6 / 8 times before would start run fine no problems now starts instently but as stated stalls after 5 sec. Will do this every time starts again without turning key off just recrank will start for 5 sec.

Welcome to the forum. passlock security system, start and stall, One possibility is the security system. How come you can't communicate with computer? Is there voltage at pin 16 of data link connector?

Yes did checking and found the comp. Was in theft lock reset computer and found that the alternator went bad and comp. Took the volt dif as a thret and went into theft lock THANKS for the answer. Replaced alt and all is fine
