1997 Chevy Malibu Compresor will not come on

Overpressured. Have a mechanic drain the system, vacuum the A/C lines, add a can of oil and the rest Freon, and you should be fine, so long as all you did was recharge it. Initially it looked like you said you changed the compressor. Make sure the plug on the compressor is plugged in and clicked into its spot. If the drain and fill doesn't do it, it's possible that overpressuring the compressor caused it to fail.
