Security light come on and car won't start

i have a 1996 cehvrolet lumina 3.1 automatic transmission. I am having a problem with the car not starting the secruity lights comes on and the car won't start the radio, ac lights works on the car i usually can wait a while and it goes off but i waited for an hour and it hasn't went off yet, the key that i have is a copy,i don't have the original, should i replace the ignition or should i get an new key from the dealer

For the cost of the key and the likleyhood it will solve it, I would be more suspicious of the lock cylinder being the problem. Best to have it diagnosed, as the cylinder is probably fairly expensive.

You can reset the pass lock system by turning the key to the on position leaving it there for 10 to 15 minutes then the security light should go off turn the key to accessories for 3 seconds then turn the key off and take it out for a few seconds. I have had the same problem with a few cars and that has worked everytime.
