My chevy lumina is 6 cylinder 3.3 L and 72800 mil. The red volts light is on today when I drove with defrog fuction on.

The alternater is probably on the fringe, the defroster puts it over the edge. HAve the charging system checked. If the battery is 5 years old or more replace it.

Hello
Thank you very much for your information which suggest me check battery, I did replace the battery with new one, however, the red light"VOLT" is still on, Is it mean that the altenator broken and need to be replace? And how much usually it cost?

Chances are very good of the alternater being bad. I only use USA brand alternaters. HAven't found a consisant one that holds up otherwise. Not sure on the cost, if $ is the big thing, get a used one from a junkyard. Should have the alternater checked while it's in the car first.

I agree with servicewriter. I don't see why the charging system wasn't checked by the ones who tested the battery? Unlessi it was strictly a battery store, and even then most will check the alt output for you at liittle or no cost.
