missing w/ speedometer jumping

97 Chev Lumina, 106K miles, 6 cyl auto. At highway speeds my car occasionally misses, sometimes so bad it shudders and the speedometer jumps up and down. One mechanic guessed oil pan gasket and manifold gasket ($1600), another suggests it may be a bad coil pack. Have you heard of these symptoms? Thanks for your expertise.

When was the last major tune-up?

Does it have a check engine light On or has flashed if so you need to have the OBD2 read and comeback with the code/s.

For a start check the fuel pressure with a gauge.
