2003 Chevy Lumina Gear button stucking for Lumina in P

Dear Sir,

I recently buy this used Lumina 2003 (2002 Manufatured). The problem I am facing is that sometimes when the gear is in PARKING or P the button stuck and did't press until with the full force and dragging toward the other gear.

Can you please tell me the possible solution to this problem.

1st check the function of brake light switch
since its sometimes and not all the time next time it happen step on the brakes and check if rear brake light on if not suspect brake light switch and replace
if light on and its still hard to come out of P
suspect and check shifter cable and shift lock solenoid

First, thank you for your reply.

I today checked with local mechanic and he says that brake switch is ok and only a person with automatic gear knowledge can fix it.

Otherwise he suggest me to park the car in N and use the handbrake instead of P of gear box. Do it harm in any way if I do this way parking?

Leaving it in N has no harm on the car
not sure if its safe to do so
and if you elect to do it make sure you have something blocking the tires from moving
should have it checked by someone else
suspect shifter cable or shift lock solenoid
