Have a 99 lumina that has recently had the water pump, hoses and thermostat replaced, radiator flushed. Temp gauge fluctuates from normal to overheating limits, and both radiator hoses seem to be collapsed both running and off and heater does not seem to be working. Can you help?

Hi:
The radiator hoses should not collapse. There should be a steel (spring type) item in the hose that prevents it from collapse. Make sure they are in both the upper and lower radiator hose.

This is the entire problem from over heating and no heat.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe

If you don't have springwrap in hose, check to see if you completely filled the system. Hard to go flat if full of antifreeze. Low fluid levels can make the temp gauge go hot and cold with no heat. See if there is a air bleed screw on t-stat hsg. Open it if there is and let the air out till fluid runs out. I guess you could also have the tstat in backwards if you really tried hard enough. It could cause a cavitation in water supply and suck the hoses flat.
