1998 Chevy Lumina maf sensor

If my diagnosis computer is reading maf sensor is there any other preliminary checks that could, or should be done before replacing the sensor? Can the problem be something else triggering the code?(Already tried cleaning it)

Why don't you try cleaning the MAF sensor for a start and go from there
