1998 Chevy Lumina enginge temp gauge goes up and down

my engine temp gauge goes up to hot then back down to regular temp. It was putting out hot air then went to cold. i have added anti-freeze, but I can not see any leaks under the car.help please

sounds like there is a leak. you need to pressure test it to find it. also sounds like there is air in the system
