1998 Chevy Lumina Air Bag Light

I just noticed that the Airbag light flashes when first starting vehicle and then stays lit. Is this a warning that the airbag will not operate properly in a crash?

Sure is. Need to have it scanned to see what the code is, it wont work in this state, the light has to be off
