1997 Chevy Lumina speed odometer

for the past few years when it is cold, my speed odometer would not show me the speed i was driving. now it is not showing it at all or it goes crazy, is there a simple part i could change to fix it?

I think it could be one of two things. 1. vehicle speed sensor. 2. The speedo head could be faulty.
