Engine Performance problem
1997 Chevy Lumina 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

hello, and thanks guys for taking the time to listen to our problem. the car belongs to my mother-ln-law, and she's been having problems with the car starting and getting fuel. i recently changed the fuel filter and the car started for a short time time and then died. after sitting for about (2) weeks the car was towed over to my place and it started right up and i decided to drive it down the street and it died once again. the car started off well, then begin to start dying as if it was'nt getting any fuel to the system. i thought maybe the fuel pump, but it seems to get fuel to the engine but that's about it. after sitting for some time the car will start with no problem, but the it just shuts off, can you please steer me in the right direction. maybe the injectors need to be cleaned or replaced ? i'm pretty sure that the car has over a 100,000 miles on it.

Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage, if you don't have one.

If it cranks good but won't start, have helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the plugs. Any applicable trouble codes? If you check codes yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader.
