Heater problem
1996 Chevy Lumina V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 175000 miles

Heater blows hot & then cold alternately. Temp gauge goes to about 1/2 way then returns to about 1/4 fairly rapidly. Heat goes back & forth with the guage. Both heater hoses are warm, radiator cap is very cold after 45 mile highway drive.

Yeah, that is exactly what my car is doing too! Any responses or luck trying to find out what's wrong?

Yes, this will happen if the engine coolant is low, I would wait until the engine cools down overnight and then open system to check the elven, if low please use this guide to help find the leak.
