Electrical problem
1996 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

I just bought my daughter a lumina and when it is first started and cold the interior dash and radio lights will not illuminate. Also the rear defrost wont come on. Eventually they both do. I just replaced the alternator and have check voltage and grounds.

Have you checked the headlight switch? It seems that it supplies power to both the dash and radio. The rear window defogger may be the relay for it.

I think it is the switch but I am having a hard time getting it out.Thanks

Best I can tell it looks like you remove the bezal around the instrument cluster and then that will gain you access to the screws to remove the switch. If need be include pics and I will look at them and give you my thoughts.

Thanks I will try tonight after work. I think that panel just snaps out but I did not want to ruin it.

There may be a couple of screws but other then that yes it pops out just do it carefully and you will be fine. Let me know how it goes. If you have any questions just ask.
