Transmission problem
1995 Chevy Lumina Automatic 135, 00 miles

I have a 95 Chevy Lumina that was bought new by my grandmother and she and I have both always had scheduled maintenance done. The problem started during winter the button on the shifter was extremely hard sometimes impossible to push to shift the car out of park after the car warmed up a little you could shift it out of park a mechanic told me he thought it was caused by soda getting spilled on there making things sticky but several months later the transmission has started meking a very loud knocking sound once the car shifts out of first(people on the street stop to stare) the car recently needed a new turnsignal switch and it needs a new intake manifold $650 So my question is what's causing the sound, about how much should it cost to fix, and what would you do if it were your car?

Cost to repair depends on what's defective-The very loud knocking noise supposely coming from the transmission has to be confirmed that it is in fact coming from the transmission and not from the engine.

When was the last time you had the transmission serviced-fluid and filter change? My opinion sacrifice this vehicle and get another one-if the noise is coming from the engine could be engine bearing problems The $650.00 repair for the turn signal switch and intake manifold repair will probably double and other repairs needed to eliminate the noise as they go and your stuck with a big bill. Sorry to have given you this bad news this is how I feel if it was me in this situation.
