1995 Chevy Lumina a real loud rattling noise

my car the last couple time i drove it has been making a really loud rattling squeeking noise it sounds like its coming from a tention pully on the alternator belt but someone told it could be water pump or timing i need 2 know before i spend to much on the wrong parts

USe a long pry bar, screwdriver or wooden dowel to serve as a stethescope. Place it near each pulley on the housing closest to each pulley one at a time. Place your ear to the oppossite end and listen. The offending one will typically stand out.

When it is narrowed down, remove the belt. Turn the pulley you believe is bad and feel for any play or roughness. Also check the tensioner to be sure it still has good movement and tension. Look at it for any cocking. Replace it if questionable. Evaluate the belt while it is off.
