Engine Cooling problem
1994 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl 130000 miles

Engine runs hot when going up hill for long stretches or when in heavy stop and go traffic. Fan is working-thermostat is new-dont' appear to have any fluid leaks. Could it be the pump?

Hello, are you having to add coolant? The temp rating of the thermostat could be an issue. Radiator cap maybe? Yeah, the pump also.

Sometimes with a crossflow radiator, I drain some of the coolant down so I can see a couple of the top coolant passages, minus the thermostat, the coolant flow is immediate, if the pump is working. I only do that if I'm already working on the cooling system.

Taking a heater hose loose on one end and bumping the starter, should show something.
