When I drive my 94 Chevy Lumina Apv on the highway it heats up (not overheating just gets hotter than normal) and the check engine light comes on. The car drives Fine, but the light comes on and it heats up to about 3/4 to the H. What is wrong with it? I was told that it is probably the thermostat.

The gauge does drop down to normal and back to 3/4, but the check engine light does stay on until the I shut the car off. What could it be?

When it gets hot do both upper and lower radiator hoses get too hot to hold? Also is the radiator fan working correctly? For the check engine light you will have to flash the codes out.
