My catalytic converter got really hot the other day. We brought the car home and took off the exhaust and now my car starts rough and won't stay running. Any suggestions on what may have happened resulting from the catalytic converter got so hot?

Was the converter red hot? Also, is it running rough with the exhaust off the car?

First, the converter needs replaced. As far as the rough idle, it most likely deals with the O2 sensors not working properly because the exhaust is disconnected.

Replace the converter and get everything put back together. It should be fine.

Let me know.
