1993 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
I just bought this car the other day and the front struts were bad. The shop removed the struts and replaced the cartridges. The mechanic informed me that the previous owner replaced the pads on the front and re-used the badly worn (unturned) rotors. When I left the shop I heard a few popping noises when I hit the brakes while making a left hand turn. It stopped the popping and was replaced by a rubbing sound (like you hear with badly worn pads but very faint.I got off the freeway today and had to come to a quick stop (was cut off suddenly). When I started moving again it is now making a noise that sounds kinda like the noise you hear when a plastic panel comes loose and is rubbing against the tires. But that checked out ok
Could the badly worn rotor and the new pads be binging in a way that is causing the pads to rattle when they are catching the ridges left from a previous brake failure. The mechanic told me the rotors were (VERY BAD SHAPE) and have ridges throughout. Just wanted another opinion before I start tearing into it tomorrow
