Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Chevy Lumina Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 139000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have replaced the MAP sensor, when it is plugged in and i start my car it raps out at 3,000 rpm even when its in gear. But if i unplug it we can get it to idle and drive at 1000 rpms. How can i find out what is making it do this? Could it possibly be the cams?

Did you do any testing, before you replaced the map sensor? Any codes? Did you check the three wires going to the map sensor, ref voltage--ground--signal?

With the engine idling, is there any vacuum at the map sensor?
