1991 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic

I have a '91 chevy lumina 3.1 6 cylinder and it worked fine until 2 weeks ago when i was told by a mechanic that i had a cracked head gasket and i needed to replace it along with the transmission fluid because the dipstick showed i had way too much tranny fluid in my car . Ever since then, my car has been having trouble and now it wont even go above 20 mph. What seems to be the problem?
