Low RPM hum?

I have a '97 F-150 2WD A/T with about 120k miles on it. The problem i'm having is a loud hum when I accelerate between one and two thousand rpm. You can feel it in the gas pedal, speed doesn't necessarily affect it, and it's not audible below one or above ~2k rpm (approx). Also i've tried reving the engine while in park and neutral and no noise. This has been an ongoing problem for the past couple years with no real change in severity. No other symptoms have been identified and no other noticable effect on driving conditions. Any solution?

My father had the same problem with his 97 f-150. His though was a 4wd and it turned out to be a rock logged between a skid plate and the engine block on the bottom. The rock would vibrate and cause a horrible noise at about 1600rpm. I’m not sure if the 2wd have a plate like the 4wd but its worth a try. If so remove the plate and the rock should fall right out. Hope this helps.
