2006 Chevy Impala Low Oil Pressure Alarm

2006 Chevy Impala Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I've changed oil twice within 100 miles thinking the oil or filter were bad. I got the same results. Does this vehicle have an oil sending unit? Can I disconnect the battery and possibly reset the unit?

All vehicles have an oil sending unit. And no, you can't reset it.

This is a serious issue. DON'T drive your vehicle until you check this out. If you have low oil pressure, you can blow your entire motor in no time flat!!!

Now F.Y.I., usually when your oil pressure drops, the computer shuts down the engine by tripping the fuel pump relay. This is to protect your engine.

But if you're getting a "Low Pressure" light and the engine hasn't cut off, then it's very likely the sending unit is faulty and your oil pressure is fine. The only way to check is to connect a oil pressure gauge in place of the sending unit.

If your oil pressure is fine, then the sending unit is bad. If your oil pressure is low, then there's an underlying cause. You need to tear the motor down to find it.

If you can't do this yourself, take it to a shop before you blow your motor.
