My windshield wipers do not return full back in place after they are shut off. Is this a major repair job?

Hi:
Are the wipers running too far (almost off the windshield)? If so, remove the arms, put tnem where they should rest when the motor is in the park position. If they are stopping too far away and they are not traveling off the windshield, the porblem may be with the motor itself. It determines where the blades park.

Thanks for come back, I can't adjust the wipers in the park position because at the park position the wipers are in the middle of the windshield. On the delay timing mode the wipers are at the right place at the right time in the cycle. It seems that the wipers are 90 degrees off when shut off. Its very confusing. Fabernat

Hi:
The motor determines where they park. I hate to say it, but it most likely needs replaced.

I took the guards off to expose the motor. I found a small 1" by 1/4" flange I believe that is on the drive system of the wipers that seems to lock on a tab that is on the frame of the wipers. When the wipers are in use (not in time delay) and the switch is turned off it seems that this flange catches this tab and puts the wipers in the park position. I think this is what it is suppose to do. I found this flange flopping around when the wipers are in use. The tab looks like its beat up. With a mirror I looked under and found a spring device that it seems this flange fits into. I put this flange into that spring. As the wipers are turned on this flange rotates. As the wipes are turn off this flange turns in the opposite direction and seem to catch this tab that put the wipers in the park position. The problem seems that this flange does not catch this tab because this tab seems to be beat up. Does this sound right? And if so do I need to replace the frame of of the wipers assembly to fix this tab?

It sounds like that could be the problem. However, it's hard for me to visualize.
